Just Sharing A Few Thoughts

It's nice and quiet and I thought I would write a little before I read and go to bed. I am so happy it's Thursday and I will head home tomorrow. We will be going to the basketball game Saturday afternoon and I am really looking forward to it. I will take some pictures this week. I need to show you how cute those little basketball players and cheerleaders look.

My daughter needs me to do some alterations and I hope to work on covering some journals. I have been seeing some of my blog friends covering them and it looks fun.

Isn't it funny how smells take you back to certain places and times? I have read that the part of your brain that remembers things is right by the smelling area. Is that cool or is it just me? I have the best memories of walking into the home economics room and smelling either cloth or sewing supplies or food that was cooked during the cooking sessions. I loved that smell and sometimes when I catch a whiff of something similiar it really takes me back. Another favorite smell was when my mother would hug me and she had on her apron. It was full of wonderful cooking smells and freshly ironed cotton. I'm missing my mother tonight.

God was so good to give us these senses. I don't ever want to take them for granted. My job everyday is to help people see again and I still don't thank the Lord enough for giving me vision. I want to pray I will keep His blessings on my mind and never take them for granted.

That's so sweet. I've been missing my mom too, so, I understand. Certain songs bring back specific memories too (or at least for me) probably because my life revolved around music so much in the '70's and '80's. Have fun this weekend! ♥ ∞

I thought of grammar school and the smell of freshly mimeographed paper. Remember being inextricably drawn to sniffing every hot-from-the-press worksheet the teacher handed out....or was that just me?

Smells certainly take you back!
I have a friend who can't smell anything. That would be bad.
Looking forward to the pictures of the basket ball players!

No Stevie, it was not just you. What does it for me is 'play doh' and crayons. A sound that does it for me is the 'screeeeeeeeee' of a play ground swing. It never misses. Suddenly I am 8 years old again, on one of those tall playground swings, leaned waaaaaaaay back, toes pointed against the sky....

I love the smell of hay. It takes me back to my cousins big round barn. We used to make hideouts in the bales of hay. Oh so much fun!

Well that just gave me a memory of Home Ec... those no bake, chocolate refrigerator cookies. I don't remember the right name for them but I remember LOVING them and would come home from school and make them with my sister because she had permission to use the stove for the sauce pot. ha ha We would put them on parchment or wax paper cookie sheet and wait for them to cool! Yummy!

i love it when smells take me back as well. the smell of caramel takes me back to making homemade taffy with my grandma j. my sister and i got the job of pulling it by hand to get it to cool down and change into the hard candy consistency. and many perfumes can take me back to my teenage years sharing a room with my sister and getting ready for dances or special events. one of the best smells is school glue and crayons -- i'm immediately transported back to that little wooden school desk and my teacher miss spoon telling us to let our imagination soar and create something pretty.

what a nice post this is, nanatrish!!!!!

Now you have us all remembering our favorite scents from long ago. I too loved the smell of freshly copied worksheets in grade school...my grandma's kitchen on Saturdays...and clean laundry coming in off the line.

I'm thinking of playing the '5 things tag' on the 5th of February...seems an appropriate day to play!

I often travel back in time when certain smells bring thoughts to mind. What a nice trip God plans for us when this happens.

Yes yes, smells always bring back memories. I remember my mom wore a lilac or violet type of perfume when I was a kid, sure wish I could find that today. And there was a certain lotion/ointment she would put on us for "chigger" bites. I can still smell it.

Also, I once licked some dry ice (thinking it was sugar or something) off the freezer that sat on the inside back porch. Yuck I still remember that.

also...my mom had a brain tumor when I was 10, and had brain surgery. She lost her sense of smell. Anyone who know her and lived near her, would use her for "smelly jobs". One neighbor's freezer broke down while they were gone traveling for weeks. When they got back, the only one who could get close to it to clean it was my mom, ...that was funny to me.

Beautiful and so sweet. That's a great memory of your mother that you have. I think of my mother when I iron. The smell of the hot iron, the steam, the hot fabrics being ironed....

Other scents take me back too, especially certain men's colognes, they remind me of the wearer, perhaps an uncle of mine who is no longer living. So nice to remember......

Thank you for reminding me to thank God for my vision in my prayers tonight. How different even one hour of my life would be, without my eyes functioning....
