What did you want to be when you grew up?
In the sixth grade we had a substitute teacher and he went down the rows asking each one of us what we wanted to be when we grew up. I can remember how nearly all the children were focused on what each child said, watching intently to hear the choice. This man that came in for a few days was an older very wise man and I remember things that he said some 47 years ago. It was the first time I had ever heard the phrase, "Consider the source and ignore it." He told us how there will always be people that try to put us down and not want us to get ahead. I have thought of that saying hundreds of times.
My occupation of choice back on that day was to be a psychiatrist. I had no idea what it required and for years that's what I thought I wanted to be. That certainly didn't happen, but I did get to do counseling for years. I am so much happier in business management in the health care field.
I'm curious, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Hi Nana Trish,

I wanted to be a teacher or an artist. I ended up being a teacher for Clinique for many years. I love to make things and although I am not an artist by any means of the imagination, I still get a thrill when I sit down and start to "play" around.

many hugs,
Barb

P.S. "Consider the source and ignore
it" is a phrase that has been repeated kind of frequently around here. Now, we pray for them.

Great question Trish. My first memory was a "cow girl" too much dale Evans and Roy Roger movies I guess for this Brooklyn NY girl..lol!

The I read "Nancy Nurse" when I was 6 and knew that was to be my calling and I grew up and became an RN. I also wanted to be a mother, and God was good and gave me a wonderful husband and two wonderful children. So all in all I became what I wanted to be and I'm happy about that.

As long as we do good in life all callings are honorable.

Hugs, pat

I always wanted to be a teacher, and I am still waiting to grow-up.LOL
My youngest daughter wanted to be a phycologist, until one day one of her friends asked her did she know the kind of people she would be dealing with...
She went into business, management and marketing...hmmm.. she is still dealing with some 'funny folk'.

Interesting question posed in this post. I wanted to be an actress. I was convinced I'd be smashing at it! Alas, that dream evaporated over time.... I can't say I'm sorry about that, as I think its mostly awful what they make actresses do on film these days. Not like the golden age of Hollywood in the 40's and 50's when actresses portrayed such glamour and charm.

I wanted to be a veterinarian, but it turned out I was not good at chemistry, etc. so I ended up becoming a language teacher and remaining an animal lover.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and condolences on my blog yesterday. The funeral was today, and I felt as if I were in a dream, and that it wasn't really happening. It's hard to wake up in the morning all alone, though of course I have my children, one of whom lives here, the other in the US, but it's not the same.

He left us with a huge hole in our hearts that we'll try to fill with memories of all the good times we had together.

Barb--you are right, now I realize I should pray for those that try to hurt me. Very good point!Do you still use Clinique?

Pat--A cowgirl was exciting. I also was sitting there watching Roy and Dale, Hop-a-long Cassidy, Gene Autry, the Lone Ranger. They were wonderful!

Techno-nana--I believe you are a teacher and have taught your great kids in the ways of the Lord.

Lavinia--I think you sound like someone that would have been a great actress. I believe you have the compassion for others and the
experience of world travel that would help you with your parts.

Bibi-- A vet. My granddaughter has been talking about being a vet for the last year or so. You must be a sweet person to feel so much for animals that you would have wanted to take care of them.

Stider--A cowboy. I think you became a cowboy, didn't you? Don't you brand them for the Lord?

I wanted to be an actress or a lawyer. Both jobs have to put on a good show!

The first thing I ever wanted to be was a mouseketeer like Annette. Then I wanted to be a model but was disuaded from following that path -or a policewoman until I found out they didn't get to do the same exciting things that police officers did back then. I ended up in business management.

Hello Nana Trish...well I always wanted to just 'be happy'. I didn't really have one idea of what I wanted to be...now that I think about it.

I knew the Lord at a young age and my desire was to serve the Lord and be led by Him in all that I did. I've always liked administration work, so landing a position in our church back in CA for nine years was an answered prayer. I loved working as a ministry assistant to the youth pastors, and our college ministry school, "War Cry", the assistant to the directors was an amazing ride for 6 years, those kids keep ya young that's for sure!!!

Thanks for asking btw.

I wanted to be a nurse and help heal people, then I wanted to be an artist later on. I dabble in art but am happy that my son turned out to be the true artist. He's so talented and it all comes from within his soul. Wes calls me Nurse Sherry sometimes when I try to give him my diagnosis, but that's as close as I got to either! I ended up being a communications engineer, far from both of them!
Hugs, Sherry

Hello Nana Trish,
I always wanted to work with children. Not neccessarily a teacher but helping children.
I did work with handicap kids and then went into the medical field.
But of course God saw fit to bless me with 5 children and already 3 granchildren with 1 on the way. My desire is to be a godly example to them and help them KNOW JESUS!!
Hope your doing well!! ? Lunch sometime your in town?

Drama mama, am I shocked that you wanted to be an actress.not really. You can still do local theatre or drama in church.

Cynthia, I also loved Annette. I would just focus on her. I think I remember her having a special deal on Fridays. Wasn't she beautiful?

Knitting Mania, you were mature at a young age wanting to do what the Lord wanted you to do. I'm sure you were great with the young people.

Sherry, being a nurse seems like it would be very natural for you. A compassionate spirit.

Momsi/Nonni, You certainly got your wish to work with children. I can tell through your blog that you are a loving mother and grandmother. God bless you for having the patience to deal with all the personalities and needs. Being an only child and having an only child I can't even imagine having two.:) I don't think I'm selfish. It just seems foreign to me. :0)

I wanted to be a nurse and most of all an archeologist.

Wish I could have been the latter.

Instead I transcribed medical records..so boring. Did it for 30 plus years.
